In this course, we will explore some of the changes that English has undergone in the last decades. Phenomena such as globalization, developments in communications and technology, advances in science, and migration, among others, have made English an international language. In that scenario, millions of people use English in the world. All English users have different cultural backgrounds and life experiences that shape how they communicate with other speakers. That diversity and richness include native and nonnative speakers of the language. There is not only one English language, or two, based on the most known varieties, American English and British English.
